In terms of battle system, fusion, character growth (in the gameplay sense), etc. Persona's story is probably overall better executed, with tons of vignettes, but SMT's has a specific charm with how dark it gets. I had to get past some issues I had with the presentation (the majority of characters only existing as portrait images with no 3D representation or animation at all) and the initial learning curve, but once it grabbed me it had me. I barely even finish RPGs ever, so that alone was an accomplishment, and the story and battle system were head and shoulders above what I'm used to. I felt super engaged with it up through the many hours it took to reach the end.
It felt fresh to me in a way JRPGs just typically don't. Loved them both but the one that really stood out to me was SMTIV. I got into Persona and SMT around the same time with Persona 4 Golden on Vita and SMTIV on 3DS. It's not like it is a game that sexualizes a bunch of kids and normalizes hitting on them which is what your original post kind of sounded like it was accusing it of I know some of the lines on Anne where underfire such as the one where Ryuji says oh I guess you gotta pose nude or something like that, but again when I was a teen boy I heard a lot of equally cringy come ons, and Ryuji always gets reprimanded for being a moron so idk I'm watching Kobra Kai and didn't think omg what a creepy show, cause teen romance is with other teens in it. I don't see people getting mad at every American teen drama that has a sexualized teenaged actor usually depicted as even younger flirting with a guy because really, they are shows for teens, teens flirt, and as long as you dont find that desireable yourself as an adult which you shouldn't it isn't harmful.
It's a bit tone def politically especially given how big a deal they make the creepy gym teachers sexualization of Anne a huge negative and feeds into a weird fantasy a lot of teenage boys have that is generally misguided, I get that especially as someone who was hit on by my teacher quite a bit when I was 15-16 and didn't realize it was kind of messed up till later, but that isn't a problem w hitting on underage uld even argue it's for the older audience who don't want to romance teens even if they are playing as a teen themselvesĮither way when you actually are playing through the game it is generally pretty harmless unless there are some other mental issues kicking around that it triggers imo.not accusing you just saying.
